Finally another update from us! Although Father's day is already over, we want to share about what we did and also how we feel :)

Mmin le

Hello from Malaysia! Mmin Le here! I am on a short getaway with my family, we visited Port Dickson which is a town on Malaysia’s west coast.

Port Dickson is famous for its beautiful beaches and the picturesque sea view. The soft sand under my feet and the cooling breeze feels really relaxing.

Of course, the highlight of almost every trip will be the food! What to eat at Port Dickson will be bread with chicken curry, ‘la zha mee’ which means ‘dirty noodles’ in English and seafood. My family chanced upon an ulu dim sum shop while looking for places to eat lunch. The shop is called Hong Kong Style Enterprise 一点心. They sell very basic dim sum and it tastes really decent and it is not oily as well! The highest priced food there is 6.8rm. I personally think that the food there is worth its price. Also the shop is quite clean and air-conditioned. They are open for business from 6.30am till 2.30pm. So if you are visiting Port Dickson for leisure, you can stop by for some simple dimsum :)

Shout out to my father for taking us on this trip! Thank you so much for driving us around and taking care of us as well :) Let us not only show appreciation to our Father on Father's’ Day. Thank you to all Dads out there who work hard for the family and for their children :)

For Fathers' Day this year, we decided to go for something simple. We took a quick bus ride to Boon Lay Market, it's a really old place but is full of hidden treasures!

The place sells a lot of typical hawker food like chicken rice and nasi lemak , but my family ordered two plates of stingray to share. What's great about the dish is not just the stingray itself, but the sambal chilli that it's topped with. It’s about $11-$18 depending on the size you order. This dish really has the local Singaporean cuisine flavour that you wouldn't typically get at a restaurant.

I got the fried carrot cake with oyster. Some dislike the oyster, some absolutely love it. Personally, I grew to enjoy it's unique taste, a little fishy, but it goes well with the carrot cake! Here's a tip if you're going there: order the satay first because they take quite some time to prepare! A lot of the food at Boon Lay Market is made fresh on the spot. Over dinner, our family had a nice conversation without the distraction of the television or our phones. Though it was merely a meal, it was a time where my dad could take a break from his work and spend some quality time with the family. It was lighthearted and enjoyable, sharing about our day. We found warmth and happiness in a simple hawker centre. This just goes to show how you don't need an extravagant meal at a high class restaurant to celebrate Fathers' Day, what matters most is being with your family and spending time with him.

When we think about Fathers’ Day, we think mostly about sitting down with family, to appreciate the things that our fathers have done for us. However, my family took a different perspective, and we celebrated with our grandparents.

Taking a break from the toll of daily life, we got a chance to sit down together as a family, and spend some time together. My grandfather is in his 80s and he doesn’t really like to leave the house. Since we could not bring him to the celebration, we brought the celebration to him! With some of his and my father’s favourite dishes, we sat down for a meal full of good food and smiling faces. Over dinner we talked about the past, how it was like in different generations of time, and through all that I saw a younger version of my grandfather and my understanding and respect for him further deepened.

My family, is not the most harmonious one. Therefore, I personally have learnt how to harden myself against emotions. I don’t like to express how I really feel, as I prefer to not expose my true feelings. Because of that, I do not usually express my love for my dad. We have our fair share of silly moments, and it is through these where I can see his love for the family. Despite being inexpressive, and rather quiet about heartfelt feelings, my dad has shown that little actions can scream what words fail to say.

My grandfather though soft-spoken and quiet, has been with me throughout my growing years, and has never failed to show me his love. He cooks his signature porridge every single time I visit, and makes me eat it with soya sauce. He provides me with endless amounts of quality (myopia-preventing) entertainment by showing me his collection of magic tricks. Most importantly, he teaches me to keep learning and setting new goals to improve myself.

Fathers are the rocks of every family. Whether it is a single parent family, or it is one with two moms, a fatherly figure, is one a child cannot live without. Fathers are usually less open about their feelings, but we must remember that they do not love us any less. They dote on us, and give us everything we could ever want and need. As we grow up, fathers and grandfathers, grow old. We should spend every possible time appreciating them, and showing them that we love them. Fathers’ Day is a day to express your love and your appreciation for your all the dads in your life, but we should not wait for only Fathers’ day to show your gratitude. Everyday is Fathers’ day if you constantly keep the appreciation in your heart.

Father’s day is an important date for all of us. we use this time to show appreciation for our beloved father who works hard for us and gives us only the best :) Most of our parents are usually busy at work and not free to spend quality time at home to just chill or talk to. Hence, with Father's Day, our fathers can have a break from the busy and hectic work life, and spend wonderful moments with us.

This year, my parents went overseas during June so i couldn't really celebrate Father’s Day with them. They were celebrating my grandparents 80th anniversary. However, I stayed in Singapore to revise for my examinations. Though I may have miss celebrating Father’s Day with my family this year, I am sure next year father’s day would be fruitful one.

My father is not exactly the “ideal father”. He smokes, drink beer everyday. Without my mom’s supervision, he would even smoke in the house! He doesn’t express his love for us easily. However, he does indeed still cares for the family. He shows it through little actions, such as sometimes cooking dinner! Examples are like the daily dishes such as fish and he is really good at frying them too. It’s crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside, not forgetting the nice aroma always making me crave for the food even more.

Although this year I did not celebrate Father's day, I shall treat everyday as this festival and love my parents everyday. Hehe :)
